21st Century Plastic Pollution: Make a Difference for Earth
Reduce Plastic * Use * Renewable Materials
8+ million plastic pieces find their way into the one global ocean every day; it covers 71 percent of Earth.
Recover & Recycle
Plastic Bank has removed over 55.3 million kilograms of ocean-bound plastic. They have recovered enough plastic to circle the Earth with straws thousands of times.
Plastic Bank projects pay collectors to remove waste from coastal communities in places like Haiti, the Philippines, Indonesia and Brazil. Their collectors gather plastic waste from streets, households, and informal dump sites, properly disposing of plastic waste before it ends up in the ocean. The plastic is recycled and reborn as Social Plastic to be remade into new products as part of a closed-loop supply chain.
As well as stopping plastic waste from polluting our oceans, Plastic Bank is a social enterprise building a regenerative society with their ethical recycling ecosystems.
Sustainable Print On Demand
When and wherever you can choose renewable materials to help reduce plastic consumption. Going the sustainable route, I came across Teemill in a YouTube video and decided to get into print-on-demand and Teemill as the provider. Based in the UK, they create sustainable circular supply chain for fashion starting with renewable natural materials like organic cotton (GOTS certified, Oeko-Tex), printed with water-based inks and manufactured in factories powered by renewable energy. All wrapped up for shipping in recycled paper. All the Rs are in play. These sustainable goodies can be remade into new items so that’s great upcycling in action and out of the landfills.
Teemill’s sustainable approach impact on the environment so far:
Plastic eliminated so far 1.6 million kg from plastic free packaging and via charities.
Organic material recovered and diverted from landfills, preventing 1.1 million kg of CO2 emissions and saving 697 million liters of water.
Trees plated during tree planting promo weekends 140,795 and 5.4 million kg of CO2 sequestered.
Zero Carbon Emissions: net carbon 5 million kg of CO2 minimized by using renewable and balanced by 5.4 million kg CO2 recovered through tree planning.
One Tee One Kg
Teemill partners with Plastic Bank during designated weekends, each order will fund the recovery and recycling of 1kg ocean-bound plastic. Follow our Instagram account @littleosakashop to be in the know when this is on.
Last weekend in July ’24 – it’s ON!
